25

For many years, November 15th was a special date. That was the date in 1983 that one of my former favorite radio stations came on the air. 25 years. I was not there at the beginning of it but I certainly was there when it was at its best. I’m talking about my former station, the wizard, a shell of what it was in its glory years. The true glory years. When people like Joel Bolton and Late Kate and The Rocker, Bill Corbeil worked there. Other names that come to mind, Nancy Masino, Mike Luoma, Tom Van Zant, Ian Kelly, Elise Brown, Mike Calhoun, Rich Haskell, Mike Wilhide, Steve Dodge, Mary Williams and yea even Arty. Those were truly the great years. Inept management and owners who only cared about the bottom line started its downward spiral. One by one key members of the staff left or where fired. Only Dave Marshall remains and they have buried him at night. Wizn is a far cry from what it was. During the glory years of 1986-1997, WIZN ruled Burlington Radio, now it is lost in the middle of the pack that I can’t even see it in Champ’s rearview mirror. Very sad to see something you loved and cared so much about go into the crapper. The staff, who have no clue what great radio is now celebrate on the hard work of so many who are not even around anymore. So you go ahead and pat yourself on the back for being a part of the destruction of a once great radio station.
